Dear Dragon families,

We're on the home stretch! It's hard to believe that the school year is coming to a close, and we are on the final six-week grading period. But remember: We still have a lot of great activities and events in store! I'm so excited that Durham will hold its first parent-driven fun run on May 14, with the name "Durham Dragon Huff-n-Puff," which was creatively developed—complete with logo!—by our own DES student, Drew Keady. I hope your families will participate with us as we put the "fun" back in fundraising, while encouraging youth fitness!

I'd also like to extend a warm welcome to our incoming Kindergarten families for the 2010-2011 school year. This is such an exciting time for you! Our annual Kindergarten Round-up is held this year on April 20 in the DES library. Please be sure to bring your future K students with you! They'll meet our fabulous teachers and get to do some special activities while you learn about the daily lives of Kindergarteners at DES.

Another event returning to DES is our annual talent show on Sunday, May 16. This year's show is called "Under the Boardwalk...Tidal Wave of Talent" and will feature the many talents of Durham students. Immediately following the show, we'll have another Family Dinner Night. Please make plans to attend!

And I hope you'll join us at our final 2009-2010 PTO meeting, to be held on May 12. (Location is still TBD, so stay tuned!) We'll introduce next year's Executive and General Boards. Remember that your involvement in the PTO is one of the best ways to ensure you stay informed, have a voice, and drive value at our school.
